Total Distance : 13 city blocks along Fifth Avenue, from 44nd Street to 57th Street. Joining up at 51st Street.
One team of walkers will depart from 44th Street and Fifth Avenue and walk north, whilst another team of walkers will depart from 57th Street and Fifth Avenue and walk south. Each team will carry a lead rainbow flag, and we shall meet in front of St. Patrick's Cathedral, where we will symbolically connect our rainbows. I'm working on a YouTube invitation for this event, which I will post here, once the video is complete.
Right here in New York, Archbishop Timothy Dolan and other Bishops and other Catholics of New York State will travel to Albany to lobby state leaders on March 8 to, among other things, ‘’oppose efforts to redefine mariage.’’ It should come as no surprise, but the Pope recently said that no one has an absolute right to be married. More laws or doctrines that discriminate can only contribute to a culture of hate and violence.
We have to acknowledge that, in this day and age, there is a loss of life that will continue with this culture of homophobia. People are dying and being attacked for who they are. If we value and place worth on life, how do we reconcile hate and violence ?
This is a non-confrontational walk, meant to increase the visibility of LGBT New Yorkers and our Catholic allies in front of the Catholic Church. We do all this with one ultimate goal in mind : for FULL civil rights for LGBT Americans.
